

Objective of Belt Testing
The purpose of the belt test is for students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge of martial arts in the public and reviewed by the expert judges. Promotion of rank and new belt is given when a student successfully pass the test.
Eligibility for Belt Promotion
Eligibility for belt promotion is determined by master/instructor’s assessment of each student’s experience and training progress. Consideration for belt promotion are based on student’s
General Testing Guidelines
- Four official belt tests are held per year; one in every three months.
- Guest masters/instructors from affiliated schools conduct judging.
- Student must attend at least 80% of a quarter, approximately 22 hours for children and 32 hours for adults, to qualify for belt promotion.
- Anyone who shows lack of discipline and contemptuous behavior during testing will be removed from the belt test perimeter. No refund will given back.
- Student who fail the test will be given one more chance after 4 weeks from first testing day. No refund will be given when you fail for the second time.
- Testing fee covers the props, invitation of judges, boards, awards, trophies and new belts

Rank & Color for Tiny Warriors (5 ~ 6 years old)

Children of age 5 to 6 years old can not achieve higher than purple stripe unless their skills are exceptional for their age.
Rank & Color for TaeKwon Kids (7 ~ 9 years old)

Children under 11 can not achieve black belts unless they are exceptionally talented and nationally ranked competitor.
Rank & Color for Young Olympian (10 to 13)

Minors under 18 can not be advanced beyond 3rd degree black belt
Rank & Color for Adult (14 & up)


American Marital Arts Academy offers different belt systems according to four age groups in order to address the need of each group better. The belt system allows gradual, step by step and systematic presentation our comprehensive curriculum. We believe our belt system will enable our students to achieve success without getting overwhelmed. It also determines appropriate level you need to be in an official sports competition. Exceptional students with an outstanding work ethics, skills with outstanding competition accomplishments can sometime be accelerated in promotion of the ranks; ask our AMAA instructors for more details.
